Texas Instruments to Sell Chips for Video, Set-Top Boxes.

Sep. 17--Texas Instruments Inc. said Monday that it's launching a new line of chips that should make digital video streams easier to watch.
The chips, called digital media processors, will consume about half as much power and process data twice as quickly as competing products, said Eric Braddom, manager of the Dallas-based company's digital media processor and imaging business.
Applications include digital videoconferencing and communications via television set-top boxes.
TI's chips will be available by the end of March, Mr. Braddom said.
Equator Technologies Inc. and Philips Semiconductor make similar chips.
