Canadian Auto-Workers' Union Ponders Next Target.

Sep. 21--Firm commitments on new jobs and investment in Canada, rather than vague promises, are necessary to avoid a strike by Canadian Auto Workers against Ford Motor Co. or Daimler-Chrysler AG, union leaders said Friday.

As CAW President Buzz Hargrove prepares to announce Monday morning whether Ford or DaimlerChrysler is the union's next negotiating target, he and other leaders pointed to General Motors' commitment to invest $800 million (Canadian) in its factories in the country as the type of specific promise they want from the other automakers.
