BellSouth Heats Up Fight for Florida's Long-Distance Market.

Sep. 21--BellSouth could begin muscling in on Florida's long-distance phone market early next year, and nervous competitors are already trying to blunt the move.
The giant regional company on Friday filed for federal approval to offer long distance in Florida and Tennessee, just days after receiving the FCC's blessing to begin selling it to customers in five other states.
The company began offering long-distance service in Georgia and Louisiana in May.
The Federal Communications Commission will make a decision on the Florida and Tennessee requests within 90 days.
