South Carolina Gas Utility Asks for Rate Hike.

Sep. 26--The cost of heating a home or business with natural gas is set to rise this winter as temperatures dip.
With wholesale prices for the commodity fuel climbing, South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. is seeking permission to pass along a 14 percent rate increase to its customers.
The state Public Service Commission will consider the request at a hearing Oct. 17 in Columbia.
The average gas-equipped household in SCE&G's service territory burns 100 therms a month in the winter, said company spokeswoman Christy Farrell. For those 242,000 residential customers, bills would go up $13.20 a month, to almost $106, during the peak...
