Top U.S. Officials Say Al-Qaeda Is Linked to Iraq.

Sep. 27--WASHINGTON--Top U.S. officials Thursday stressed alleged ties between al-Qaeda and Iraq as President Bush pressed Congress and the United Nations to back the use of force to disarm Saddam Hussein's regime.

"Al-Qaeda and Iraq are too close for comfort," White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said.

In an appearance with members of Congress, the president cited the risk that Iraq might aid al-Qaeda as one reason "the Iraqi dictator must be disarmed."

"Each passing day could be the one on which the Iraqi regime gives anthrax or VX nerve gas or someday a nuclear weapon to a terrorist ally," Mr. Bush declared.
