Mechanics Vote on US Airways Deal Could Set Tone for Future Labor Relations.

Sep. 13--When US Airways' unionized mechanics vote for the second time Tuesday on whether to accept wage and benefit cuts, more than their paychecks will be on the line.
The outcome of the vote could determine whether US Airways, which filed for bankruptcy court protection Aug. 11, will be able to voluntarily restructure itself without breaking a labor contract.
It also could determine the tone of labor-management relations at the airline for years to come and, some would say, the Arlington, Va.-based carrier's survival.
The showdown was cast Aug. 28, when 6,800 mechanics and related workers represented by the International Association of Machinists decisively...
