Airline Traffic Gains Skewed.

Oct. 5--Airlines are reporting big increases in passenger traffic in year-over-year comparisons for September.
The reason, of course, is that almost any traffic numbers would look good in comparison with the paucity of travelers just after last year's terrorist hijackings.
Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines, for instance, reported a 31 percent increase for the month in revenue passenger miles compared with last year.
Revenue passenger miles -- one paying passenger flown one mile -- is a widely used yardstick for volume in the airline industry.
Compared with September 2000, however, Delta's traffic was down more than 11 percent on 10...
