Nonprofit Group Wins Right to Manage Domain Name Internet Organization.

Oct. 15--The nonprofit Internet Society has won the competition to oversee the org Internet domain, and is vowing major improvements to the domain, which is used by thousands of nonprofit organizations.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the international organization that oversees the way domain names are managed on the Internet, announced yesterday that the Internet Society had beaten out 10 other applicants to manage the .org domain. The job came open when Verisign Inc., the for-profit firm that runs the most popular Internet domains, .com and .net, agreed to give up its control of the .org domain.
