Virginia Approves Plans for Open MRI Machines in Southwest Virginia.

Oct. 15--Here's comforting news for people who get the creeps in an MRI tube. Two open MRI devices could be up and running in the Roanoke Valley next year.
According to plans approved by the state last week, the medical devices will be operated by Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem and Odyssey IV, a Roanoke-based medical imaging company. The two projects have a combined cost of $3.8 million.
Lewis-Gale Medical Center plans to construct a building on Braeburn Circle on the medical center campus for its unit and open in May 2003. Odyssey has proposed placing its unit at the Valley View Medical Center, though it has not signed a lease.
