AT&T, Lucent Face Class-Action Lawsuit in Kanawha County, W.Va.

Oct. 22--A lawsuit in Kanawha Circuit Court alleges that AT&T and Lucent Technologies knew they sold telecommunications equipment in the 1990s that was not Y2K-compliant and would need an expensive fix.

The class-action lawsuit could involve more than 100,000 plaintiffs nationwide and cost tens of millions of dollars for three telecommunications giants: AT&T and two spin-offs, Lucent and Avaya, according to James Peterson, a lawyer for the plaintiffs.

"They knew that various telecommunications products were not Y2K-compliant, yet they continued to sell these products, knowing they would fail," he said.
