Vivendi Universal Board Takes No Action on Sale of Boston-Based Publisher.

Oct. 30--Vivendi Universal's board met yesterday in Paris without taking any action on the sale of Boston-based publisher Houghton Mifflin.

Vivendi did, however, reject Vodafone Group's offer for its stake in Cegetel, France's second-largest phone company, saying the $6.7 billion offer was too low.

The rejection could be an indication that Vivendi intends to increase its stake in Cegetel, a strategy that would put more pressure on the company to quickly sell other assets, such as Boston publisher Houghton Mifflin, to raise cash.
