Green Bay, Wis.-Based Discount Chain Chooses New CEO.

Oct. 30--The former president of Fred Meyer Corp., Sam K. Duncan, has been appointed chief executive officer of ShopKo Stores Inc., a Green Bay-based discount chain that has been operating for about six months with an interim CEO.
Duncan, 50, has headed the West Coast divison of supermarket giant Kroger Co. since March 2001. Prior to that Duncan was president of Ralph's Grocery Co.'s supermarket division since 1998.
Jeffrey Girard, vice chairman of finance and administration, has been serving as interim CEO since William Podany left the company in April, citing personal reasons. Girard will continue as vice chairman, reporting to Duncan.
