AMC Theaters Are Found to Violate Americans With Disabilities Act.

Nov. 27--A federal court in Los Angeles has ruled that many theaters operated by AMC Entertainment Inc. violate the Americans With Disabilities Act by providing inferior seating for patrons who use wheelchairs.

The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed in 1999 by the Justice Department alleging that AMC has engaged in a pattern and practice of denying those with physical disabilities access to goods, services and benefits available to other patrons.

AMC spokesman Rick King said the company, based in Kansas City, planned to appeal the ruling. King said the decision by the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles contradicted other rulings on the same issue, including...
