Nov. 24--Expansion plans at Southwest Washington Medical Center are very much alive despite Legacy Health System's plans for a new hospital in Salmon Creek.

Southwest expects to get construction started in late spring or early summer on a $123.1 million project to add 82 beds and create new and remodeled facilities for its heart, neurosciences, orthopedic and cancer care centers.

Estimated costs have increased $8 million over the original project outlined a couple of years ago. Scope of the work is unchanged at 235,000 square feet.
