Indianapolis-Based Hat World Acquires 14-Store Company Hat Zone.

Nov. 23--Hat World Inc. announced Friday that it has snatched up yet another competitor, this time Kansas City, Mo.-based Hat Zone.

The Indianapolis-based company, already the largest retailer of specialty headwear in the nation, bought the 14-store chain for an undisclosed amount. Hat World officials say the stores -- 13 in malls and one in the company's home office -- will remain in operation under the Hat Zone name.

The company, while small, will add elements missing from Hat World's portfolio, such as licensed apparel and custom embroidery, said Bob Dennis, chief executive officer and chairman.
