Nov. 22--The all-new, 2003 Saturn ION is here, and it is eons ahead of its predecessor, the venerable Saturn S series.
Designed from the ground up as a whole new car, not just an update of the old one, the ION marks the first time Saturn has made major changes to its entry-level model line.
The subcompact S cars, which were the only ones Saturn sold until the midsize L series came along in 2000, had been on the market with no substantial changes since the standalone General Motors brand was born in 1991. But the S cars actually date to 1984, when the design that eventually became the Saturn S series came off the drawing boards at General Motors....
