New University of Missouri Chief Will Get Big Pay Raise.

Nov. 14--The University of Missouri broke the silence Wednesday and let out the poorly kept secret that Elson S. Floyd, president of Western Michigan University, will become the next president of the University of Missouri system.

Floyd signed a contract far richer than that of Manuel T. Pacheco, the system's outgoing president.

Floyd will be paid $350,000 a year -- $90,000 more than Pacheco and $130,000 more than he is making now at Western Michigan. Unlike Pacheco, Floyd also will be eligible for "deferred compensation"--$50,000 a year payable in total at the end of five years if he is still on the job and getting favorable performance reviews.
