EMI Jumps into Online Music Sales.

Nov. 14--Record labels are suddenly embracing online music services with a fervor that can be traced to the rapid erosion of its traditional business -- sales of pre-recorded CDs.

EMI Recorded Music on Wednesday announced the most liberal digital distribution deal of any of the five major recording labels, granting nine online music services the unprecedented right to sell digital singles to consumers as soon as they debut on radio -- typically weeks before an album's retail release.

Its sweeping deal with pressplay, Listen.com's Rhapsody and FullAudio and other budding services gives subscribers the freedom to take their music with them, either...
