Kershaw County, S.C., Buys Industrial Land Jointly with Sumter-Based Utility.

Nov. 5--Kershaw County and the Black River Electric Cooperative have purchased 210 acres at Exit 101 on I-20 to offer to industrial prospects.

The county and the Sumter-based utility split the $1.2 million cost of the land, which was bought last month. It will be sold back to industries that choose to move into the new industrial park, said Nelson Lindsay, the county's economic development director. The industry must buy its power through the cooperative.

The county hopes to eventually buy 500 to 800 acres at the site to take control of the prime industrial land 24 miles from I-77, Lindsay said.
