Northwestern Mutual Subsidiary Buys Property in Downtown Milwaukee.

Nov. 1--A Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. subsidiary has purchased a downtown property for a possible future expansion, a company spokeswoman said Thursday.

The 23,000-square-foot building at 795 N. Van Buren St., near Northwestern's headquarters, at 720 E. Wisconsin Ave., was sold for $1 million, according to the Milwaukee County register of deeds.

The building was sold by the American Heart Association's Wisconsin chapter. The association plans to move by March to 16,000 square feet it will lease at 660 E. Mason St., said Natalie Melphrus, a senior vice president at the organization's Minneapolis office.
