Reported Leader for University of Missouri Presidency Has Contract Obligation.

Nov. 12--The man reported to be the leading candidate for the University of Missouri presidency is under contract at another institution until the summer of 2006 and must give one year's notice before leaving, according to his employment contract.

Sources wishing to remain anonymous told the Tribune on Saturday that Western Michigan President Elson Floyd was the UM Board of Curators' top choice to succeed the retiring Manuel Pacheco. Members of the Western Michigan Board of Trustees have said Floyd was offered the UM post but that he has not informed the trustees of his decision.

If the UM curators wish to hire Floyd, one obstacle might be his contract...
