Boeing, Bush Administration Close to Agreement on $21 Billion Tanker Deal.

Nov. 6--WASHINGTON--The Bush administration is closing in on a deal worth up to $21 billion to lease and later buy 100 Boeing refueling tankers based on the 767 -- a plan to update the aging Air Force tanker fleet while providing a much-needed boost for one of the company's struggling models.

Though the players say they are still negotiating details, some dollar figures emerged yesterday. Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Bremerton, confirmed the Air Force is advancing a plan to spend $17 billion to lease the airborne-refueling planes for six years each, taking delivery between 2006 and 2011.
