Dec. 3--MIDLAND, Texas--About 40 West Texas cotton growers picketed the headquarters of Cap Rock Energy Corp. for more than an hour Monday morning, the most public manifestation of the controversy surrounding the rural co-op's conversion to a publicly traded corporation.

Holding placards with anti-Cap Rock messages ("Country Co-op Becomes a Little Enron" and "New York City? Get a Rope!"), the cotton growers were protesting Cap Rock's decision to hold its first shareholder meeting as a corporation in New York City, said Harold Hoelscher, an officer with the St. Lawrence Cotton Growers Association.

Cap Rock's headquarters were closed Monday.
