University of Florida President Now Tops Pay List.

Dec. 12--One-upping their Orlando counterparts, University of Florida trustees awarded Charles Young a $93,200 salary increase Wednesday, making him the state's new highest-paid public university president, at $350,000.

Young's raise is $300 larger than the one the University of Central Florida gave its president last month. With that, John Hitt had become, briefly, Florida's highest-paid president, at $295,000.

Young plans to retire next year, and the UF board also began the search for his successor Wednesday. One reason for his raise was to reset the pay scale for that search, board Chairman Marshall Criser said.
