University of Texas Officials Pin Research Hopes on Dallas Campus.

Dec. 12--Higher-education officials say they're picking the University of Texas at Dallas to become the UT System's next research powerhouse, a move that could bring the school more money, superstar professors and greater national prestige.

System officials will describe the first steps in their plan for UTD during a Board of Regents meeting Friday in Austin, said Mark Yudof, system chancellor.

"UTD is at the top of my list," Mr. Yudof said. "Dallas deserves a first-class research university because of its size."
