Orange County, Calif., Title Insurance Giants Get Bigger.

Dec. 17--Orange County's two title insurance titans inked separate deals Monday that illustrate the different paths they are taking as they try to grow their notoriously cyclical businesses.
In the first deal, Fidelity National Financial Inc., the country's largest title insurer and the county's fourth- largest company by market valuation, said it was buying the 72 percent of ANFI Inc. that it doesn't already own.
In the second deal, First American Corp., the county's 12th-biggest company by market cap, said it and US Search.com would combine their background-screening businesses to form a new publicly held company.
