Indianapolis Beer, Wine Distributor Bans Use of Cell Phones While Driving.

Dec. 18--The Monarch Beverage Co., an Indianapolis beer and wine distributor, is one of the first area companies to adopt a policy that bans employees from using handheld cell phones and other electronic devices while driving on the job.

"It is the prudent thing to do -- for safety, liability and courtesy," said Phil Terry, Monarch's chief executive.

Prudence may play a role in other companies following Monarch's lead if a Virginia court holds a law firm liable in a hit-and-run accident involving one of its associates that left a teenage girl dead.
