Texas Senator Joins Lott in Effort to Organize African-American Summit.

Dec. 20--Sen. Trent Lott of Mississippi has turned to one of his close allies, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas, to organize an African-American summit early next year, while struggling to maintain his position as Senate Republican leader.
Lott, who has apologized at least five times for suggesting that the country would have been better off under a segregationist president, said this week that he wants to make amends by reaching out to the black community in several ways, including holding a summit.
Hutchison, who was already planning such a summit for the spring, suggested the idea to Lott, who brought it up in an interview Monday night on BET, Black Entertainment...
