Jan. 3--The Detroit auto show is all about spectacle.
From multimillion-dollar displays to made-for-TV stunts like cars flying through the air, the North American International Auto Show brings a bit of Hollywood to often-gloomy Detroit. (Eminem's "8 Mile" captures the bleak reality perfectly.)
But inside Cobo Hall, the atmosphere is electric -- loud, bright and crowded.
Detroit hosts America's most important auto show. This year, starting with press/preview day Sunday, automakers will unveil nearly 40 production and concept cars. These are the cars and trucks that Americans will be driving in 2003, 2004 and beyond.
