Holidays Boost Online Sales.

Jan. 6--The 2002 holidays were dismal for many traditional retailers but not for online merchants.

By some measures, online holiday sales rose by as much as 40 percent from 2001. In contrast, most sales estimates for traditional holiday shopping have been for increases of 1.5 to 3.5 percent. Online sales need to be kept in perspective, however. According to Jupiter Research, they accounted for just 2.5 percent of US retail activity in 2002.
