Holiday Sales Numbers Remain Disappointing despite Post-Christmas Lift.

Jan. 8--Post-Christmas sales gave merchants a bit of a lift, according to one sales report yesterday, but the boost didn't look to be enough to save a disappointing holiday season.

Tiffany & Co. and Circuit City Stores Inc. said they will miss holiday forecasts. On the upside, Brookstone Inc. of Nashua and Sharper Image Corp., two chains that specialize in unusual gifts, raised fourth-quarter profit estimates.

Tweeter Home Entertainment Group, a Canton-based chain of consumer-electronics stores, said it has asked FleetBoston Financial Corp. for a waiver on a loan agreement that requires the retailer to meet certain performance targets.
