Co-Chief of Vivendi Universal's U.S. Entertainment Group Apologizes for Joke.

Jan. 9--Humbled media mogul Barry Diller on Wednesday publicly apologized for making disparaging remarks about oil tycoon Marvin Davis.

The previous day, Diller joked about Davis' girth at an investor conference in La Quinta, Calif., and dismissed Davis' prospects for acquiring Vivendi Universal's U.S. entertainment businesses.

Davis has made it clear he would oust Diller, the current co-chief executive of the U.S. entertainment group, if he succeeds in his bid to buy Universal's movie studio, music and theme parks group, which includes Universal Orlando.
