Texas Senator Loses Aviation Subcommittee Chairmanship to Mississippi's Lott.

Jan. 11--WASHINGTON--Because former Senate Republican leader Trent Lott lost his post, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas, has lost one of hers.

Mr. Lott, R-Miss., will replace Ms. Hutchison as chairman of the Senate subcommittee on aviation, officials said Thursday.

"He has seniority and the right to choose before me," said Ms. Hutchison, who will instead chair a subcommittee on surface transportation and the merchant marine. Aides said she would continue to be involved in aviation issues. And she still serves in the leadership as vice chairwoman of the Senate Republican Conference.
