New Power Plant in Kern County, Calif., Is Slated to Go Online Soon.

Jan. 10--Operators could fire up a new power plant in Kern County any day now, bringing with it 1,124 megawatts of energy.
La Paloma, constructed near McKittrick, is 99 percent complete and is estimated to go online this month, according to the California Energy Commission.
"We're in the very last stages," said Sandra McDonough, spokeswoman for the project developer, PG&E National Energy Group. "We're very, very close on getting some of the units commercial."
Four other power plants -- Elk Hills, Midway-Sunset, Sunrise and Pastoria -- are targeted for Kern County over the next several years. Following La Paloma is Elk Hills and the second phase...
