Key U.S. Senators Caution Telecom Regulators against Sweeping Changes.

Jan. 15--Key U.S. senators cautioned federal telecommunications regulators Tuesday against dramatically changing rules governing local-phone competition and limiting state policy makers' ability to set wholesale rates.

The Senate Commerce Committee lectured and quizzed Federal Communications Commission chairman Michael K. Powell and his four colleagues for 3 1/2 hours about the agency's reported plans to ease regulations on the nation's four giant local-phone companies.
