Aquila Files to Use Regulated Assets As Collateral in Colorado.

Jan. 15--Aquila Inc. is seeking permission from Colorado regulators to use the company's regulated assets as collateral for at least some of its loans.

The filing is the first since the Kansas City company announced in November that bank lenders had told it to make a good-faith effort to win approval for using regulated assets as collateral.

"It goes to the heart of what the banks have said and what is going on within the industry," said Aquila spokesman Al Butkus.

Butkus said Tuesday that of the seven states where Aquila has utilities, it will need approval in Colorado, Missouri, Minnesota and Iowa. No dates are set to file with the other states,...
