Jan. 15--In stunning fashion, DDB Chicago has loosened the tight grip of one of the industry's oldest client-ad agency relationships.
Wm. Wrigley Co. on Tuesday confirmed that DDB Chicago was invited into pitch a new campaign for Wrigley's Extra line, currently handled by Wrigley's longtime agency BBDO Chicago. Furthermore, a Wrigley spokesman said that the company will move forward with the new advertising concept from DDB and produce the ad.
Though the spokesman made it clear that DDB is not supplanting BBDO on the Extra business, the move is the clearest sign yet that the status quo is changing under new chief William Wrigley Jr.
