Columbus, Ga., Students Plot Out Holiday Forest for Future.

Jan. 12--Imagine a grove of hardwood trees along a creek bank -- white oak, swamp chestnut oak, yellow poplar, red maple, black gum, bald cypress, northern red oak, fringe and dogwood.

To some, it might sound too bucolic for a congested urban area, particularly one situated between Columbus' only mall and a busy freeway. But Trees Columbus and nearly 100 volunteers from Carver, Pacelli and Brookstone high schools and Columbus State University were out in force Saturday planting a "holiday forest" for the future.
