Microsoft Dividend May Pressure Colorado Companies to Pay Investors.

Jan. 21--Microsoft never offered a dividend for 17 years, but the software giant has had a change of heart that could pressure other companies to pay investors.
Like Microsoft, the vast majority of Colorado companies have avoided dividends, but some want to change that, including President Bush, who has proposed removing the tax on dividends.
Only 14 Colorado public companies pay dividends, with yields ranging from 2.05 percent to 0.19 percent, according to Bloomberg.
The dividend dearth could put companies in the state at a disadvantage if Bush's proposal for making dividends tax-free becomes law.
