Mechanics, Aircraft Cleaners at Southwest Airlines Pick New Union.

Jan. 25--Southwest Airlines Co. mechanics and aircraft cleaners chose a new union Friday, dumping the International Brotherhood of Teamsters for a small but fast-growing rival group.
The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association of Laconia, N.H., has a feisty reputation among airlines as being aggressive in negotiating contracts. At Northwest Airlines Inc., AMFA entered contract talks asking for raises of more than 100 percent. It later forced President Bush to intervene to settle the dispute in 2001.
