Thai Central Bank Chief Sees No Need for Capital Increases.

Jan. 25--Local banks have no immediate need to raise new capital this year, according to M.R. Pridiyathorn Devakula, governor of the Bank of Thailand.

"There are no banks right now that face a need to raise new capital, although Thai Military Bank, if it wants to increase its provisions, would have to do so through a capital increase," he said.

Thai Military Bank on Thursday announced that it would raise new capital later this year to increase loan-loss provisions as well as refinance its 13 billion baht in outstanding capital securities.
