Lake County, Fla., Citrus Growers, Nurseries Brace for Cold Snap.

Jan. 24--With the National Weather Service issuing a hard freeze warning throughout Central Florida, many Lake County citrus growers and nurseries were taking precautions to protect their crops and plants.

It is the second such warning issued in a week. During the same week in 1985, a freeze struck a severe blow against the citrus industry. A freeze on Jan. 22, 1985, on the heels of a December 1983 cold snap, nearly obliterated the citrus industry in the county. Before that, the county had as many as 140,000 acres of citrus. The freezes pushed the number of acres to fewer than 20,000.
