Virginia Port Authority Approves New Travel Policy.

Jan. 29--NEWPORT NEWS, Va.--The Virginia Port Authority adopted a new travel policy Tuesday that it said would allow state officials to adequately market the port while making sure public money is wisely spent.
Port authority staffers had contended in recent weeks that new state travel rules on hotel rates and meal expenses were too strict to allow them to stay in business-quality hotels or effectively entertain potential clients.
They said that the rules adopted in the wake of the lavish spending by port officials and other state officials at the Paris Air Show in 2001 could jeopardize winning international shipping deals.
