Layoffs, Changes to Shave Costs for Maine's Public Television Stations.

Jan. 30--In an effort to overcome a $385,000 budget shortfall, Maine Public Broadcasting this week began a round of layoffs, reorganization and programming changes in its television and radio operations.

For viewers of the Maine PBS television network, visible changes will include the loss of public affairs anchor Don Carrigan. Carrigan decided to leave last month for a job at Portland commercial station WCSH (Channel 6) but will not be replaced. The public television network also will add four more days to its March on-air pledge drive, bringing the total of pledge days to 23.
