Massachusetts Energy Group to Force More Reliance on Renewable Sources.

Feb. 1--Those who advocate more "green power" electric generating projects like the windmill in the South Shore town of Hull soon will be able to vote with their wallets.

Hull's Municipal Light Plant, which operates the 660-kilowatt turbine, said yesterday that it has a precedent-setting $120,000, three-year deal with the Massachusetts Energy Consumers Alliance that is intended to create financial support for wind, solar, and other renewable energy projects.

State laws require utilities such as NStar and Massachusetts Electric to get an increasing share of their power from renewable sources instead of from gas, coal, and nuclear-powered generators.
