Three on International Space Station Are Safe; Resupply Set.

Feb. 2--NASA's shuttles serve as lifelines for the astronauts on the International Space Station, but the three crewmen in orbit 250 miles above Earth aren't stranded as a result of Saturday's Columbia disaster.

However, ambitious station construction plans for 2003 might face delays if NASA grounds its remaining shuttles for any significant time.

The two Americans and one Russian who have been on the space station since November were scheduled to return next month on the shuttle Atlantis, to be replaced by a new crew. That flight seems certain to be delayed, although NASA officials said Saturday they hadn't decided on a schedule for future missions.
