House Democrat Asks for Less NASA Influence on Shuttle Accident Probe.

Feb. 8--WASHINGTON--The highest-ranking Democrat on the House subcommittee that oversees space policy asked President Bush again Friday to direct that the board investigating the Columbia accident report to the White House, not NASA.
The letter to Bush extended criticism that the board, whose members were appointed by NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe, is too close to the agency to be objective.
Retired Adm. Harold W. Gehman Jr., who oversaw the probe into the terrorist bombing of the USS Cole, is heading the investigation.
