Congress to Search for Clues in Shuttle Disaster, Map Future of Space Program.

Feb. 11--WASHINGTON -- Congress opens the most extensive investigation of the nation's space program in 17 years Wednesday, searching both for clues to the Columbia tragedy and a map for the future of American space exploration.

The Senate Commerce Committee and House Science Committee will meet jointly Wednesday to hear from NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe about the fiery loss of the shuttle Columbia and its crew of seven Feb. 1.

NASA and an independent commission already are investigating what caused the shuttle to break apart over the western United States as it ended a 16-day mission and streaked toward a landing at Kennedy Space Center.
