Frito-Lay Thailand Introduces Thai-Flavored Snacks.

Feb. 14--The American potato chip maker Frito-Lay is entering a new battle zone in Thailand's highly competitive snack market with the introduction of non-potato crackers, challenging local brands such as Fashion Food, Cornae and Snack Jack.

Frito-Lay (Thailand) has led the local potato chip market for more than five years but is having difficulty expanding its share further.

Its new Tawan (sun) brand features extruded snacks made from wheat and tapioca starch in two flavours: chili and shrimp. The company sees the extruded snack segment as a higher-growth market, representing about 35 percent of last year's combined 8.4-billion-baht snack business....
