Feb. 19--The U.S.-Chile free trade pact up for approval in Congress this year offers tremendous opportunities for Florida companies, from banks to insurance companies to makers of environmental equipment.
But hurdles remain to passage in Washington, and gains may be undermined by new homeland security measures that make international business more costly and difficult.
Those were among the conclusions of a seminar Tuesday on the ambitious free trade pact with South America's most open and fastest-growing economy, which could become law as soon as May 1.
